Crazy Busy Art Room Art Prompt 5

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today's project will hopefully bring a bit of springtime cheer to your day. We will be creating a bunny (or another animal of your choice) in a field of flowers.

Supplies Needed: 2 pieces of paper, pencil, eraser, paints or crayons, black marker, scissors and glue.

I will have photos of the steps posted below, but please read through the directions for any additional information.

Step 1: Paint (or color) flowers on a piece of paper. You can create any type of flowers that you would like. Draw lots of them and fill up the entire paper. Make those flowers reach to the top of the paper.

Step 2: On the 2nd piece of paper draw a circle near the center of the paper for the head of your animal. Make the circle the size of your fist.

Step 3: Add two lines starting at the head going towards the bottom of your paper to create the body of the animal.

Step 4: Next add ears to the head. I made a bunny, so my ears are long. You can make any animal that has fur. A cat. A dog. A bear. A fox. The ears you make should be the type of ears you would find on the animal you are planning on creating.

Step 5: Add a smaller circle inside the first circle to create the nose area.

Step 6: Add two slightly curved lines to make the nose pop out. These lines start near the top of the head and connect to the smaller circle.

Step 7: Add details to the face. Nose, mouth, eyes. My nose is triangular in shape because I am making a bunny. If you were making a dog or a bear, what shape would you use for your nose?

Step 8: Outline your animal with a black marker.

Step 9: Now we are going to draw some small lines on our animal to create fur. When we draw lines like this we are creating an IMPLIED TEXTURE. Artist use this to help make their subject matter to look like it feels a certain way. Fill in all the areas on your animal with these small lines. The more lines you draw, the more furry your animal will appear.

Step 10: Carefully cut your animal out.

Step 11: Glue your animal to the flower paper. Make the bottom of your animal line up to the bottom of your paper. Make sure your animal is not floating!

Art Prompt 4

Happy Monday Comet Artists! Today's lesson is a Koi Fish painting. Koi fish in Japan are a symbol of good luck or courage.

Supplies Needed: Paper, watercolor paints, brushes, pencils, eraser, white crayon.

*All photos of steps are attached to this post, but I encourage you to read through the steps listed here for added directions.

Step 1: Lightly draw a circle to create a head for your Koi fish.

Step 2: Draw an oval attached to the circle to create the body for your fish.

Step 3: Add a triangle shape to the oval to create the tail.

Step 4: Erase the lines connecting the tail to the body so it looks like one shape.

Step 5: Add the side fins and top fin to your fish.

Step 6: Add details to fins and tail.

Step 7: Add details to the head of the fish (snout, mouth, whiskers, eyes).

Step 8: Add scales to the body of the fish.

Step 9: If you have room on your paper and want to draw more than one fish, go for it. Once you have all your fish in place, draw Lilly pads around your fish.

Step 10: Using a white crayon, color all the places you want to stay white on your fish. If you do not want white on your fish, skip this step.

Step 11: Paint the fish using your watercolor paints. Let the colors blend together. Koi fish come in many different colors. The most popular colors are red, black, white, blue and yellow. What color will you paint your Koi fish?

Step 12: Paint the Lilly pads in tints and shades of green.

Step 13: Paint the blue in the background for water.

Step 14: Outline the fish and Lilly pads with black paint or outline with a black marker when painting is dry.

Crazy Busy Art Room Art Prompt 3

Today we are going to work on symmetry and warm and cool color harmonies.

Supplies Needed: paper, pencil, medium of your choice (crayons, colored pencils, markers or paints), and a black marker

Step 1: 

Fold a piece of paper in half.

Step 2: 

Draw an object in the center of your paper. Think of the fold line as the center of symmetry. The object should be similar on each side of the fold. I used a cat for my example. What will you draw? A butterfly? A flower? An alien from another planet?

Step 3: 

Draw a bubble outline around your object. Repeat the bubble outline until it goes off the paper in all directions.

Step 4: 

On one side of the fold, color the paper using only WARM colors. Do you remember what colors are warm on the color wheel? (REDS, YELLOWS, and ORANGES)

Step 5: 

Color the other side of the paper using only the COOL colors. Remember the cool colors are opposite of the warm colors on the color wheel. Can you name the cool colors? (BLUES, GREENS and VIOLETS).

Step 6: 

Outline with a black marker, sharpie or crayon to make your image stand out.

Art Prompt 2

Today I would like you to try and create a silhouette painting. A silhouette is an image of a person, an animal, an object or a scene that is represented as a solid shape in one color (usually black).

Step 1: Find some paper. Paint the whole paper to look like a sunset or a sunrise. Use warm colors. Think about how these colors blend into one another as you use them.

Step 2: Allow paper to dry. As it dries start thinking about what kind of silhouette you would like to create in the foreground of your sunrise or sunset. Will it be a tree? A dinosaur? A cityscape? A field of flowers?

Step 3: When paper is dry, lightly draw with pencil your silhouette idea.

Step 4: Using a black marker to color in your silhouette.

I have a few examples attached to this post that I found on online. If you don't have paints, use crayons or colored pencils. BE CREATIVE!

Although these posts are geared towards my K-6 students, I hope you know that I encourage all who want to participate to do so...no matter your age!

Art Prompt 1

Here we go! Our first Crazy Busy Art Room Art Prompt! I thought it would be nice for us to get outside before the rain drops keep us in the house for a bit. Your art prompt for today is to go outside on a nature scavenger hunt. What objects can you find outside that you could use as drawing inspiration? On my hunt this morning I found leaves, pinecones, an acorn, and pine needles. NOW it is time to create! What can you make with these items? Will you do a drawing or painting? Will you glue the items together to create a sculpture? When I finish, I will post my creation. Feel free to post and share your creation with me! I can't wait to see what you come up with!
