I can't take full credit for today's art prompt. I have seen this on other art teacher's post and on Pintrest, but it is too fun of an art activity to pass up.
Today I want you to go on a scavenger hunt within your household to see if you can recreate a color wheel out of found objects! Dig through your toy boxes, look through your art supplies, check out cupboards, look in your bathrooms, under your beds and even outside to find the colors that you need to make a color wheel.
I have posted a photograph of a color wheel to look at, as well as the one my son and daughter made with me. Ours was pretty big. We laid it out on our living room floor.
A couple things to remember and discuss as you assemble your color wheel:
1. Remember what colors should be across from one another on the wheel (yellow opposite of purple, green opposite of red, blue opposite of orange).
2. Think about those primary colors: RED, YELLOW, BLUE and how they made those secondary colors: ORANGE, GREEN, VIOLET. The wheel should alternate a primary color with a secondary color. The secondary color is created by the two primary colors next to it. So between yellow and blue, should be green.
I hope you have fun doing this today. Please remember to post your photo of your completed wheel in the comments below.
OH! One more thing, make sure you put things back where you found them when you are done.
Happy hunting and creating!
