Today we are going to be creating a sarcophagus with a mummy inside!
A sarcophagus is a stone coffin which is usually decorated with designs or sculptures. Ancient Egyptians would bury their Pharaohs in these coffins. Inside the sarcophagus could be multiple coffins. Each coffin inside was to help protect the body. Sometimes the sarcophagus was also filled with jewels so the Pharaoh could take this with him in the next life.
I have posted the photos below with the steps, but make sure you read through the directions for extra details or instructions.
Supplies Needed: paper, pencil, eraser, scissors and markers
Step 1: Fold a piece of paper in half lengthwise.
Step 2: Keep the paper folded. Add a curved line near the top of your paper.
Step 3: From the curve line, draw 2 more curves going off the paper. These will be shoulder for your sarcophagus.
Step 4: Next add a slight diagonal line that reaches near the bottom of your paper. This is on the open end of the paper.
Step 5: On the fold side, near the middle of the paper, start a 2nd slight diagonal line that goes near the bottom of your paper.
Step 6: Connect the two diagonal lines with a curved line.
Step 7: Cut on your pencil lines. Be careful not to cut on the fold. You should be able to flip this open and close.
Step 8: Open the sarcophagus. Draw a line that follows the outer edge of the sarcophagus.
Step 9: Repeat the shape again. This will be our mummy.
Step 10: Add an upside down "v" to create the arms of your mummy.
Step 11: Repeat the shape again. Make it slightly smaller and add lines pointing upward to create the arms.
Step 12: Outline with a black marker. Add horizontal and vertical lines to create bandages for you mummy.
Step 13: Color the inside of your sarcophagus.
Step 14: Fold the sarcophagus closed. Draw a small oval to make the head.
Step 15: Add lines to create the Pharaoh's crown and beard.
Step 16: Draw an "X" under the Pharaoh's beard. Make sure the ends go off the paper.
Step 17: Add two vertical lines in the center of the sarcophagus. Start at the "X" and go off the paper.
Step 18: Add horizontal and vertical lines to decorate the sarcophagus.
Step 19: Add a face to the oval.
Step 20: Color.
