Crazy Busy Art Room Art Prompt 41

Happy Friday Artists!

Today we are going to be making a colorful monster.  There are lots of creative options for you today. Besides looking at the photos, make sure you read through the directions for additional instruction and creative choices.

Supplies Needed:  paper, pencil, eraser, black sharpie, crayons, watercolor paints, brushes

Step 1:  Near the top of your paper draw 2 circles on your paper to make eyes for your monster.  Give each eye a pupil.

Step 2:  Draw a mouth for your monster.  I decided to give my monster a happy smile, but you may want to give your monster a sad, angry or silly face.  You decide.

Step 3: Add teeth inside your mouth.  Draw triangle shapes if you want the teeth to be sharp and pointy.  If you are looking for a sillier smile, draw the teeth using square and rectangle shapes.

Step 4:  Draw a large arc around the eyes and mouth to create the body.

Step 5:  Give your monster some ears.  This can be any shape you want, long and pointy or round and floppy.  You can also add other objects to your monster's head.  Maybe you want to give him a bow or horns?  Maybe your monster needs a party hat?  Lots of options.  Be creative!

Step 6:  Outline your drawing with a permanent marker.

Step 7:  Now it is time to add different types of lines to your monster's body.  Horizontal, zig-zag, curvy, dashed, etc.  How many different types of lines can you create?  Use a crayon to draw the lines on the body.  You can use different colors or stick with one color.  Your choice.  Press hard with the crayon so it will resist the paint in the next step.

Step 8:  Paint your monster any way you wish with the watercolor paints.  I decided to paint a rainbow on my monster.

Step 9:  Paint the background of your paper black.
